While Siemens has built the technology to allow smart automation of lighting, the business challenge was to ensure that office admin personnel can operate such complex systems with ease. The office building manager should be able to navigate the software interface, create their own schema for zones and lighting logic, and reconfigure spaces in the building without feeling overwhelmed by the application.
The Manage application allows offices to configure zones based on individual lighting needs; along with occupancy monitoring and daylight grouping. The office admin can control temperature and intensity adjustments for maximum comfort and energy efficiency. These advanced functionalities can make the operator feel perplexed, and our design challenge was to make the interface intuitive and user-friendly for a non-technical person to navigate it.
Aimed for efficiency
This application is designed for use by building facility managers, IT and network administrators, and business managers. It aims to enhance energy efficiency, optimize workspace lighting conditions, and reduce operational costs within the building environment.

Through the “Manage” application, Siemens allows office buildings to drive down energy costs, with features like motion sensors that can detect when a room is empty and automatically turn off the lights to conserve electricity.
We simplified the complexity of the interface, making it easy to create individual light control, scheduling, automation, energy monitoring, and integration with other network devices.

Our approach to designing the office environment involved a visual translation of the office floors as per the building plan. We focused on creating a screen that accurately maps the physical layout of the office. Our goal was to ensure efficient grouping and furnishing templates for these groups. To make it easier for administrators to navigate, we developed a simple and clutter-free user interface that also included reporting functionalities.

The redesigned app featured an intuitive interface that significantly improved usability, including the creation of schedules, templates, implementing clear labels, intuitive controls, and simplifying workflows. These changes make it easier for users to navigate the app and manage their lighting preferences efficiently.

The tool did not show the progress of the tax filing process in real time, leaving clients unaware of whether their documents had been received and what was happening.
The outcome
The Manage app enables businesses to make informed decisions about their energy consumption, addressing rising environmental concerns and energy expenses. The app provides smart lighting systems for energy savings, featuring an interface that displays real-time occupancy data and spatial analysis. Users can view energy consumption and savings in real time, helping them to decrease their energy usage and carbon footprint.
