The Requirement

The bank aimed to modernise its Internet banking platform and create a unified space for customers to view, manage, and track their finances. They wanted to provide a comprehensive range of personal financial services to its customers under the umbrella of Transact, Invest, Borrow, and Insure (TIBI). This framework allows customers to control and track their finances, enabling them to make informed decisions.

We needed to understand the banking process and the perspectives of stakeholders from different regions. We also had to keep revisiting the information architecture to improve existing features and add new ones. Ensuring we completed user testing and incorporated their feedback within a limited time was challenging. Also, sudden changes in business requirements, with dependencies on other sections, lead to redesigning the different sections as well.

Our Approach

We led the project to revamp and improve the UI and UX experience for the internet banking of Standard Bank customers, considering future trends. We collaborated with diverse teams to design for optimal productivity, ensuring that new features blended in with the existing ones to provide user-friendly designs.

We redesigned workflows and tasks, simplifying them and taking all dependencies into account during the process.

Improving internet banking

The audience for the Internet banking platform were the customers of Standard Bank, who used it for transactions, borrowing, investments, and insurance.

Simplified Information architecture

To simplify information architecture at deeper levels, we broke it down into tasks and information. Information was further categorized into tabulars format (beneficiary list, payments list, etc.) and certified data (bills, receipts, certificates, etc.).

Catering to closed data flow

We created an open-ended flow and layout for the website, which was a closed system based on data generated through internal tasks. We designed the navigation to accommodate both basic and advanced users, enabling seamless transition between tasks and information access for various use cases.

Blending new features with existing features

We conducted user-tests of the new and existing features to validate the designs. Based on the results, we iterated on the designs. We collaborated with the back-end team, to validate the feasibility of flows and data functions for an enhanced user experience. We brainstormed and bench marked the best practices of our competitors to ensure we deliver a validated and competitive product.

The outcome

Provided the UI design for the Internet banking platform. We worked with the end users, iterated based on their feedback, and provided the final designs for the development team to implement. The outcome was a super intuitive, simple, and easy-to-use interface that didn't confuse the users. The interface was clear of any marketing-related information, which didn't distract or disturb the users, providing a smooth user experience.

Consolidation of software

They used different software for the analysis and report generation on one drug. We had to consolidate the tasks and create workflows to ensure that they were ordered in the same flow - cleaning up raw data, running data analysis to generate tables and plots, and producing the final report.
