We are a cricket obsessed country; it’s no surprise then that smart wearable technology like Str8bat is valuable for cricketers looking to improve their game. Str8bat wanted to make actionable feedback easily accessible to players and coaches through a mobile app. This was done through a sensor placed onto the back of a bat that utilized analytics to provide complete 3D visualization of each shot played.Str8bat approached Twist Open UX to design the cricket app with a strong focus on creating a sense of benefit and excitement for the user.
Our preliminary research revealed that existing apps were complex and lacked stimulating visual treatment. In order to brand Str8bat, we decided to showcase cricket as a celebration (much as it is viewed in India) and the user as the protagonist. These decisions determined the choice of high contrast colours and design elements, along with bold typography and photography.

The wagon wheel and the individual statistics page give one an overview as well as a detailed break down of each shot played.
These representations are designed to engage the user with the focus of delivering information clearly and strikingly. Whether it is determining the swing speed or sweet spot, these high contrast visualizations bring the app to life.

Our main goal was to create a user interface that was both simple and comprehensible, catering to elderly patients who might have trouble reading or using digital devices effectively due to their ailments. During the design process, we carefully considered these factors to ensure inclusiveness and usability.
We introduced alternative input formats such as voice notes, pictures or videos to make the communication richer and easier for patients who may have impaired hand eye coordination and fine motor control. We used enlarged typography and buttons with large target tap areas, making them easily accessible.

The outcome
At Twist Open UX, we delve into details that significantly impact the user experience, as demonstrated in our work for Str8bat. We understood that the app is often accessed on the field under direct sunlight or with cumbersome gloves, and we incorporated these insights into the design. We addressed all critical user needs in the app's design, ensuring a seamless and practical interface for field use.
